Shockabuku Genesis

Little is known about Kitty at school. Her school life has been versatile as well and should be recognized. It also pinpoints more to the reason she went to the seaQuest in the first place. So her it be. Kitty's last day of real school.

Military School

Kitty stepped into the empty hallways.
"Military school." she grumbled. "Just what I need. Another force of violence in my life." She had a hard time moving in the skirt uniform she was wearing. In a fit of anger she ripped the seam up her leg. Then proceeded to her first class.
Kitty walked into her Philosophy 3 class, where a discussion
about whether or not God exists was in progress. Her fellow students stared in disbelief at their wallflower of the year.
"Glad you could finally join us Ms. Berlow." the professor proclaimed.
"It was either your class or detention." Kitty smirked. "And they wouldn't let me in detention." Her teacher looked shocked at her outburst but ignored it and went on.
He had the following logic: "Has anyone in this class heard God?"
Nobody spoke.
"Has anyone in this class touched God?"
Again, nobody spoke.
"Has anyone in this class seen God?"
When nobody spoke for the 3rd time, he simply stated, "Then there is no GOD."
Kitty did not like the sound of this at all, and asked for permission
to speak. The professor granted it, and the she stood up and asked the
following questions of her classmates:
"Has anyone in this class heard our professor's brain?"
Silence.
"Has anyone in this class touched our professor's brain?"
Absolute silence.
"Has anyone in this class seen our professor's brain?"
When nobody in the class dared to speak, the student concluded, "Then,
according to our professor's logic, it must be true that our professor
has no brain!" 'Have you snapped?' Kitty thought to herself.
"That's enough Ms. Berlow. Be seated." She did as told…for a while. Five minutes later as class was silent the Professor began to hand out tests.
"Excuse me!" Kitty burst. "I don't understand the question!"
"And which one would that be Ms. Berlow?"
"The one that says name here." A snicker from the class.
"Very funny Ms. Berlow. Now take your test." His voce was stern.
"Alright fine. Keep your pants on. Please." Another slight snicker arose. This was fun.
"Ok, question number one. What lobe of the brain controls sight?" Kitty began to mumble just loud enough for the rest of the class to hear. "The front maybe? Yeah that sounds about right. Your eyes are in the front. Now what is that front called? The cerebellum...no...motor strip...no...uh, the cerebral cortex. There we go. Wait! Maybe it's in the back…"
"Ms. Berlow!" he now yelled then calmed. "Please keep your comments to yourself."
"Oh yeah sure. Like you can read my thoughts." Kitty back handed. "God, the professor is such a jerk." she started again. Another break in silence.
"That's enough. Come to my desk now." Another break in the silence only it wasn't laughter. Kitty did as told.
"For that I should throw you out so fast half the other students would get whiplash from your tailwind, but since you have shown exemplary behavior since the beginning of this year I will excuse you under the grounds that you were experiencing temporary insanity. Now please sit down."
"Yes sir!" Kitty proclaimed clicking her heels together, standing up straight, and saluting a little more than sarcastically. A silent snicker.
An hour into class tests were taken up, and the presentation began. While the instructor had his head turned Kitty worked on fashioning something with her notebook paper. More minutes passed. The Professor was in the middle of a damn exciting lecture on the difference between the conscious and unconscious mind.
"As you can see the unconscious mind contains Non Rapid Eye Movement also known as NREM and it also contains Rapid Eye Movement also known as REM..."
"Quite right, old bean," Kitty intervened using her English accent and stuffing pencil shreddings into her paper fashioned pipe.
"That's it Ms Berlow!" his face was red. Jackpot. "As of this moment you are no longer a member of this class! Grab your things and leave! I will transfer you to another class immediately. Silent but less than reluctantly, Kitty got up and stood at the door checking for anything she may have missed.
"There it is," she said smartly; grabbing the model brain off the professors desk. "I was wondering where this went." She tucked it under her arm like a football.
"Ms. Berlow!"
"Sorry." At that she left.

Kitty wandered the empty halls. What had gotten into her? Normally she was a shy quiet person. What had possessed her to do all that? Kitty knew she should be worried, but she wasn't. In fact, she liked it. The attention felt good and it made a few of the other students feel better. This place could use a class clown, and if no one else had the guts to do it, hey, why not her?
The bell rang for the next class and Kitty already had the idea for her next stunt.

Kitty dashed to her chem.. class franticly looking for her instructor. Seeing him she breathed a sigh of relief.
"They've found me," she replied breathing hard. "I have to leave the country." At that she left.
"Ms. Berlow?" he called back. "Get back in here." Kitty smiling along with the rest of her classmates came in and sat down.

Shockabuku SeaQuest

This is when I actualy created Kitty. She was for the show called seaQuest. I may but summeries of the episodes and how I changed them later.

Season 1

It was between the episodes "BROTHERS AND SISTERS" and "GIVE ME LIBERTE" that I placed Kit on the seaQuest. She was sent there because the general thought it would be a good experience for her to be in the navy. The general (her father) is Nathan's late wife's brother. When she arrived she (along with Lucas) was the youngest crewmember to be assigned. Though she wasn't really a crewmember until the second season.

She doesn't really appear in the series until "KNIGHT OF SHADOWS" In my version Kit goes with them. She doesn't do too much except complain about how the place was WAY too creepy for her taste.

"BAD WATER"
Kitty is in the boat with the lost crew. This is her big moment when she starts to sing a song she had written "Guardian Angel in the Lost and Found". It was a nice ballad though I never saved the song and have forgotten the lyrics I wrote to it. Perhapes one day I'll write it again for a story.

"THE REGULATOR"
Kitty isn't in this one much except for one scene where she catches the Regulator stealing Darwin and tries to stop him.

"PHOTON BULLET"
Kitty for some reason doesn't go with Lucas when he invites her to join him. A good thing too. She wouldn't have liked the Julianna girl.

"BETTER THAN MARTIANS"
Kitty can't figure out what the big deal is about the snail because she always believed in life out there, but she asks to go with them and is captured with the rest of the crew.

"NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH"
Kitty stays on board because she wants to have a little "me" time. When the ship is highjacked she manages to keep hidden and helps the injured Chief by doind what he told her when they reconfigured the seaQuest systems.

"WHALE SONG"
Bridger orders both Lucas and Kit off the sub when he leaves. While Lucas hides behind in Kreigs room, Kit gets a better idea. She goes with him and convenced him to go back.

"STINGER"
Kitty helps Lucas and Hitchcock design the mini-sub which she too would rather call the Stinger. She doesn't want Lucas to test pilot it because she felt something bad would happen. She tries to go on instead of him but doesn't succeed. Afraid that he may get hurt again Kitty empties the oil from the stinger before a race with it. Bridger knew she did it but didn't say a word, he let her tell him. Lucas was pretty mad about it.

"HIDE AND SEEK"
Kitty helps Alex with Darwin. When she realized they could talk with eachother she does everything she can to keep them together in hopes of finding out what wrong with him. She, Alex, and Darwin make a kind of emotional connection and she is taken when Darwin is dolphin-naped. She makes a nice speach about how much Alex loved his mother and how instead of trying to make him forget her he should try to have Alex imbrace her memory.

"THE LAST LAP AT LUXURY"
Kitty gives Lucas lessons on public speaking and is there to support him when he gives his speach. She tells him even if this is a pretend date (that's how he got her in) something bad will happen. She was righ
t.

"ABALON"
Kitty's at the party when Lucas gets there. When he asked her how she was alowed to go she told him she simply asked her Uncle Nathan. Lucas feels bad about lieing to the captian until Kitty tells him that the girl he came to see has a crush on him. She leaves before the cops bust the place.

"THE GOOD DEATH"
Kitty helps take care of the kids.

"AN OCEAN ON FIRE/HIGHER POWER"
Kitty feels for Lucas when his father has no time for him and invites him to join her at her place for Christmas. He agrees but before they get to go a sequnce of events happens that causes him to change his mind.

Season 2: Kitty goes back to the seaQuest on an internship. She works under Dr. Smith who becomes her mentor.

“THE FEAR THAT FOLLOWS”
Kitty and Lucas meet the aliens again and she is friendly enough to them they take a likeing to her and Lucas. She is one of the ones possessed by them instead of Kreig.

“SYMPATHY FOR THE DEEP”
Kitty finds it strange about the head aches and thinks there may be an ipedemic. She too is effected by the exposure and tries to beat the crap out of everyone who crosses her. In one scene she broke up a fight by beating them both up proclaiming "I hate violence!" She goes into the colony and argues with Brody's command constantly. She's the one who suggests asking Dagwood what they should do.

Here is where Kitty is almost killed and they think she's dead.

The ol' switcheroo

What's going on: This is from the second season directly after, After the Suicide. Before that episode Kitty's father had commanded her to come home. When she refused he forced her to come back. She ran away in an attempt to not leave what she had always known. A hired man somehow connected her to the seaQuest and tried to murder her. He was killed in the fire that was meant for her demise. Two bodies were found and she was supposedly dead. She kept the charade going until she could figure out what to do. A record producer heard her sing one day, as she did often to make money, and offered her a contract. Lucas heard one of her records over the Internex and found out she wasn't dead. The rest of the story is in After the Suicide. Reading after the suicide is not needed for this story. It only means to help you understand on part. Nathan thought she and Lucas were sleeping together.

Kitty breathed in, a bag on her shoulder. She had no idea how they did it, but they did. Her green eyes sparkled. She was home. A small party was waiting for her. Word spreads fast on the seaQuest.
After Kitty took turns saying hello to old friends she finally made it to her quarter's door. Surprisingly neither Lucas nor Uncle Nathan was there. They must be mad at her or something. She couldn't blame them.
She tossed her bag onto the bed and sat down. Section Seven was exceptionally rough with her. She had a hard time convincing them she was only scared and she wasn't running anything illegal. Kitty closed her eyes. Suddenly a knock came at her door.
"Enter." Lucas walked in he looked even more tired than she was.
"Sorry I didn't come and see you. The captain's keeping me busy."
"That's ok. I'm just glad you aren't mad at me."
"Nah," Lucas sat down beside her. "So how did Section Seven treat ya?" He didn't even have to wait for her answer as her eyes sullined into a deep brown. "That bad huh." At that moment the door opened and Bridger walked in. Kitty jumped up.
"We weren't doing anything!" she let out. Oh God not again. Kitty why do you torture yourself like this.
Nathan to her relief only laughed.
"I guess I had that coming. Welcome back."
"Thanks." She sat back down. "How did you?..."
"Manage to get you back here. I know a few people in Section Seven and pulled some strings." Kitty's brow tightened.
"Not at your expense I hope."
"No not entirely. I did promise them how ever that you would make all of them some of that migraine solution you make for Lucas. Lieutenant Reynolds can be a hard ass." Kitty laughed at first. "All 500 of them." This wasn't that funny. He smiled then left.
"Looks like he's after you too." Lucas stood up. "I've gotta go." At that he left. Kitty was alone.

Kitty had finally gotten all the materials together, and half of it into a large vat of solution. She had taken over the entire hydroponics lab to do this. '500 people was a lot.' She had explained. She could have done this anywhere but taking over her uncle Nathan's favorite spot to get away was sort of consoling.
"All he ever does is sit in his quarters all day trying to read," she complained to herself. "Commander Ford does all of it." She poured in a white powder. "Why do we even need a captain?" In went the basil. "He must have the most cushiony job in the world." She dropped in the last ingredient then with out waiting for it to sink in she screwed the lid on tight. Then lifted the jar and went on her way.

Nathan Bridger was sitting on his bed trying to read his book again. Sighing he closed it.
"I spoke at her funeral," he grumbled to himself. He was still annoyed at the fact Kitty never contacted him. Deep down he knew the reason why. She had explained it to him a dozen times. There was just a hole in the explanation somehow. Something she wasn't mentioning. It ate away at him.
Just then Kitty burst in dumping the large mayonnaise jar onto his desk. He jumped up startled. She couldn't knock.
"That should be enough." Kitty replied a mischievous wink filled her evergreen eyes. With out waiting for a response she left closing the door behind her. Nathan looked curiously at the jar.
Standing outside in the hall she raised her arm as if reading a watch that wasn't there.
"In three, two...one." The moment those words tumbled from her wickedly smiling mouth a cry came from behind her door.
"Oh God!" The door shot open and a strong stench filled the hall. Various members of the crew looked in their direction.
"Oh I forgot to mention. Don't open the jar." She replied straight-faced at her uncle's scowl. The moment Kitty turned around she cracked and paced away.
Dr. Smith looked at her watch as Kitty peered inside. Piccolo was sitting in the chair across from her.
"Your early," Dr. Smith said. "The session isn't over yet."
"If it's ok with you, Doc, I wouldn't mind leaving now." Piccolo obviously sounded nervous. Must be his first time.
"No Tony, please continue. Why do you hate Dagwood?"
"I never said I hated Dagwood. He could use a new paint job but hey - some people could use a new hairdo you know." Dr. Smith looked forlorn. "Don't worry about it Doc you're a heartbreaker. Gee, the time flies like the wind, hm?"
"Yes, it does." the Doctor answered clearing her throat.
"And fruit flies like bananas." he added. Kitty almost laughed. She had forgotten about Piccolo's unique sense of humor.
"Thank you, Tony. You may leave now." Piccolo didn't even hesitate.
The Doctor sighed and motioned for Kitty to sit down. "Looks like you came back from the dead just in time for the yearly session. May we begin?"
"I uh. I don't know exactly what to talk about. Um, nice weather huh?"
"Were in a submarine."
"Oh yeah. We are aren't we..." Kitty stammered her eyes turning a deep brown.
"You seem uncomfortable."
"Seem? Oh, don't get me wrong it's not you. The, uh, the last time I saw a shri…uh, psychiatrist he, uh, put me on, um," Kitty put her hand to her mouth and made an sneeze to cover the next word.
"Pardon." This time she mumbled it. The doctor was telepathic she should know.
"Excuse me."
"Prozac!" she shouted. Calming herself she continued. "He, uh, put me on Prozac."
"Did you take it?"
"Hell no!"
"Why not?" Kitty couldn't answer, her eyes becoming an even deeper brown she slumped into the chair. The doctor laughed.
"I understand. When I was your age a shrink put me on the same drug. I refused to take it too."
"You Dr. Smith?" Kitty felt more comfortable.

"Yes me." she laughed again. "That was before I discovered my telepathic powers. That's part of the reason I wanted to speak with you."
"You think I'm a telepath?"
"Possibly. I'll have to run a few tests first."
"But...Why?"
"You told me a few minutes after you had just gotten back that you had a dream."
"Yeah."
"A dream about the man who tried to kill you."
"So. I have those all the time."
"So do I."
"Dude."
Lucas flopped onto the bed of his quarters. What a day. First the vocorder goes on the fritz, then Bridger expected him the do some scans, after that he had to solve one of the toughest equations he's ever seen. He always hated homework. Just then his private PAL went off.
"What is it Kitty?" he asked once he fished it out of his pocket.
"Your...............believe................Dr. Smith................tele..." Kitty's voice muffled. He really needed to fix these things.
"That's nice. Hey look can we talk about this later. I'm kinda tired." He answered with out waiting for a response he turned his PAL off. Wonder what she wanted?
Kitty stared at the PAL in her hand.
"He cut me off." She mocked sounding offended. "That little weasel cut me off." This constituted a visit. She got up putting her PAL in her pocket and stepping out of her quarters.
Captain Nathan Bridger stepped onto the bridge. Many of the crew turned their noses as he walked by.
"Whoa Captain," said Commander Ford walking towards him then backing up. "What happened to you?"
"Kitty. What's the status?" He asked, a hint of annoyance in his voice, looking to the vid-screen.
"Nothing so far. This is where we heard the distress call but there's no sign of any underwater colony's or submarines. It's a dessert, so to speak." Miguel answered.

"I have a bad feeling..." Wendy mumbled. Just then the seaQuest shook catching everyone off guard. Dr. Smith flew backwards into some machinery.
"Wendy!" Capt. Bridger exclaimed rushing to her side. "Call General quarters!" he commanded. Tim did this.
Kitty stood at Lucas' door.
"General Quarters!" O'Neil's voice projected as the red emergency lights flashed. Men and women rushed past to their posts. Kitty was about to turn around when Lucas' door flew open hitting Kitty in the nose.
"Ow!" she yelped a startled Lucas beside her now.
"God I'm sorry!" He exclaimed over the siren. "Are you OK?"
"Yeah I'm fine." She pulled her hand away to find blood all down her uniform. "Damn it. I'm bleeding again." She griped as she ran to med-bay.
Kitty was amongst the last the gush in. She stood there her blood stained hands to her sides. Her nose was really sore. Her uncle Nathan had left the bridge with the unconscious Wendy. Kitty rushed to her mentor's side. Grabbing the nearest scanner she began the observation.
"What happened to your nose?" the captain asked.
"I was attacked by a door." A few moments passed while Bridger tried to suppress a laugh. "According to this there's no damage," she finally answered turning the scanner off. She then turned the doctors head to examine the wound.
"Dude." she mumbled grabbing a wet cloth that just happened to be nearby.
"What?"
"The scanner said that there was no damage, but this is a nasty little wound here. I'm going to clean it up."
At that moment the ship shook again violently. Kitty attempted to clean up the spilled alcohol that was jostled from her hand, and clean Wendy's wound at the same time. No conversation was exchanged while it was being dressed. Both were waiting for another hit.

Nathan watched his niece. She was very talented in medicine that was for sure. Even after all that happened she still seemed cool as a cucumber. It all must come so easy for her. And she had no idea. Another violent shake.

Kitty looked up after regaining her balance. Her captain watched her as calm as a summer breeze. The hit didn't even seem to faze him. He must be used to it by now. She was deeply surprised by how composed she must have seemed as well. She was scared out of her wits yet her hand moved as if it all just came naturally. She looked again. For a few seconds she thought she could almost see a hint of admiration in the captain's eyes. She didn't really get a good look though. Suddenly another greatly exaggerated vibration and a bright flash of light engulfed the boat. Kitty was still seeing spots after it faded.
"Is every one still alive?" the captain asked while Kitty's vision cleared.
"Lets hope so," she answered. She looked to her Uncle Nathan. He was nowhere in site? "Where are you?" She looked around herself confused. She would have sworn she had been standing on the other side of the room. Then she spotted someone, but it wasn't her uncle. "Dude."
There four feet in front of her stood...well...her! She blinked her eyes hard and looked again. Her other self looked just as astonished as she did. Just then her PAL went off.
"Lucas, you're not going to believe this..." Kitty began.
"I'm sorry sir?" said the voice on the other line. It wasn't Lucas.
"Who is this?" Kitty asked again.
"Commander Ford. Sir, are you feeling all right? You're voice sounds different." Just then the other Kitty grabbed the PAL.
"What is it Commander?" it asked using Nathan Bridger's voice.
"The enemy seems to have disappeared. Should I call off Generals Quarters?"
"No wait for me. Just because we can't see them doesn't mean they still aren't there."
"Yes sir."
Kitty swallowed as the other Kitty handed her back the PAL.
"Well this is some mess we've gotten ourselves into this time, isn't it?" it sighed still using her uncle Nathan's voice. Kitty was uncommonly stunned as she put the PAL back into her pocket. She had no idea she could impersonate voices. Then she caught a glimpse of herself on the metal table that once had alcohol on it.
"I'm old," she stammered looking at her uncle Nathan's face in the table.
"You're me," he cleared.
"Now what?"
"The captain reports to the bridge," he replied pushing his niece.
Kitty started to argue. "What? But I'm not the captain you are."
"But you look like me. There for..."

"Can't we just explain it to them?" Kitty interrupted.
"And what are you going to tell them? We don't even know what happened. No. It's just better to wait and figure out what's wrong with us before we panic the boat. Now come on."
"But I'm not a captain!" Kitty freaked out. She couldn't have picked worse timing to utter those words. All of the crew on the bridge stared at them.
"Sir?" said Ford creasing his brow.
"Uh..." Kitty stopped and lowered her voice. "Uh nothing Commander. Get back to your post."
"Yes sir."
"What's the status?" Nathan asked in a failed attempt to heighten his voice.
"Uh, yeah what's the status?" Kitty repeated doing better this time.
"There is still no sign of them."
"Good you keep an eye out and I'll go check on Dr. Smith." Kitty turned around and was about to leave when Nathan stopped her.
"She's being taken care of sir." He answered his voice doing better as well.
"Uh, yeah, yeah right." Kitty mumbled walking back and taking a seat in Nathan's command panel. He had been subtly gesturing towards it with her eyes.
"Sir," said O'Neil pulling off his headphones. No reaction. "Sir." Still nothing. "Captain." This time Kitty turned his way her eyes a mix between 'Who me?' and 'I shouldn't even be doing this!'
"Yeah Tim," she automatically replied. He looked at what he thought was his captain strangely then continued.
"I think they're hailing us."
"Uh, on screen." She was trying to sound more like her uncle this time. The vid-screen flipped on but there was no one there. Suddenly a deep threatening voice boomed.
"Trespassers! You will be annihilated if you do not back away!" Kitty looked longingly to where the real captain was once standing. He wasn't there, She was alone...again!

Nathan watched his niece in action. A little awkward, but she was doing better than he did on his first day.
"What's the status?" he asked helping her a little.
"Uh yeah what's the status?"
"There is still no sign of them."

"Good you keep an eye out and I'll go check on Dr. Smith." Nathan grabbed her before she could leave.
"She's being taken care of sir." If Kitty left now they would be wondering why later. Besides he was there to supervise.
"Uh, yeah, yeah right." Kitty mumbled taking a seat in his command panel. Good she got the hint. Just then a hand landed on his shoulder and a voice was whispering in his ear. "You're needed in med bay."
"Now?" he whispered back.
"Yes now." The man replied grabbing supposedly Kitty's arm. Before Nathan could object he was being dragged out.
"Hey what are you doing!" he objected once they were well down the hall way. He didn't want to make a scene. The man didn't answer. Nathan finally wrenched out of the man's bruising hold. "What's the meaning of this?" He asked calmly dusting Kitty off. "What rank are you?" The man only laughed.

Kitty began to perspire.
"Sir? Are you sure you're ok?" Ford asked again whispering.
"Commander I'm fine." she lied. And it greatly showed in her voice. The other crew members began to notice as well. "Ti..." Kitty stopped herself and cleared her throat. "O'Neil can we trace that?" She was using her original voice now only it sounded like Nathan.
"Yes sir." Tim complied.
"Do it. In the mean time we should stay here. Better yet. Ortiz, back us up a little. We don't wanna tick off what ever that was." Kitty was surprised at how calm her voice sounded when she said this.
"Sir," Ortiz replied. This time she was paying attention.
"Yes."
"Were not moving." Kitty got up and stood behind him.
"Try it again." He pushed a few buttons...still nothing.
"They want us to leave, yet when we try to we can't..." she mumbled to herself. She turned to Commander Ford. "I don't know about you Jonathan but I smell a trap." she mumbled.
"They're aiming their cannons at us sir," one of the men replied. Kitty's heart rushed. The only thing she could get through her mouth was "Oh God were gonna die." Fortunately it came as a mumble.
"Sir?"
"Uh, raise shields." she substituted.
"All shields are down sir!" came the report
"They're firing at us sir!" Kitty only stood and starred.

After being less than delicately escorted to med-bay he spent most of his time avoiding being run over.
'Kitty ranks over half the scientists and doctors in here.' He thought immediately jumping back to dodge a collision with a medical table and it's driver. 'And she gets absolutely no recognition or respect.' He had already lost his escort in the crowd. 'Why on earth are there so many people in one spot?' he wondered. It wasn't long before the answer was revealed. One of the MED's recognized Kitty and finally let him pass. Over a dozen of his injured crew was being flooded in. After moments of complete and utter confusion he found the man who led him there. He was standing over Dr. Smith with two electro paddles.
"Give me 50 gigs!" he exclaimed as the nurse did this.
"Wait!" Nathan called out. He sounded just like his niece. At first the man ignored him. Nathan rushed through the crowd. For a moment everything was in slow motion/ He did the first and only thing to arise in his mind. The second he was within reach he knocked the man over. 'Sharp move' The man gave Nathan an extraordinarily hostile look. Suddenly Nathan felt very small and weak. "I-I'm sorry." He stumbled over the apology attempting to help the man up. He gruffly pushed the hand off. "If you give her that much it will kill her." His voice was barely over a mumble. Why on earth did he feel so threatened? He has dealt with people much worse than this guy, yet he still felt, well...sixteen.

"Raise shields and fire intercepts!" Kitty commanded. The crew did so. "Prepare for impact!" Every thing beyond this point was like a reflex. The large boat shook with tremendous force jostling everyone on the bridge. Kitty even lost her balance and had to sit down. When the chaos was over Kitty felt her uncle Nathan's heart skip a beat.
"They're hailing us again sir," O'Neil replied.
"Let them through."
"That was only a warning shot. Back away now or you will be destroyed." the voice once again declared.
"O'Neil did you get that trace?"
"No sir. It must be a recording." Kitty reacted fast.
"Lucas?"
"Yes sir?" He approached her.
"I need you to figure out why we can't leave and who or what is sending that message."
"Yes sir." He turned.
"And Lucas."
"Sir?"
"After I need to talk to you."
"Yes sir." At that he left.

Nathan turned to the nurse.
"If you give her that much it can kill her. We only need 25," he almost pleaded. The nurse looked confused. "Listen, 50 gigs is too much. It can stop her heart permanently."
"Don't tell me you're going to take the word of a child." The nurse looked from one to the other.
"Yes, Dr. Sizebeck, I am. Toning down to 25."
"Thank you." Nathan said with Kitty's eyes. The man smiled.

"Lucas, report." Kitty talked into her Uncle Nathan's PAL. No answer. Lucas?"
"Uh, sir," Ford intervened.
"Yes, commander?"
"Walenczak doesn't have a PAL."
"Oh I forgot. We should get him one. He's part of the crew too."
"Sir, you were the one who said that if we gave him one he would use it to tap into private secured conversations."
"Right. Like I said. He's part of the crew now too, if only he were more responsible."
Ford said nothing else. Kitty almost felt relieved when the voice contacted again.
"That was your last warning. We will now shoot to kill."
"Ortiz? Do we still have those shields up?"
"Yes sir. Up and full."
"Good. I want to try something. O'Neal can we contact them?"
"Yes sir, if it's not a recording."
"Try anyway. I have a feeling that was a real person."

Nathan put down the paddles. He managed to get Dr. Smith's heart to beat again. The crowd still hadn't died down, but at this point all he could think of doing was rest. Kitty's heart was beating faster than he could think.
"What a rush," he mumbled as Kitty's PAL went off. Kitty had a PAL? "Yes."
"Hey Kitty. How's everything down there?" a voice asked.
"Lucas?"
"Who else?"
"I thought I...uncle Nathan said you weren't allowed to have a PAL?"
"Two-ways Kitty. There two-ways. Besides, what Bridger doesn't know won't hurt him."
"It won't, huh?"
"Why are you asking about it now?"
"No reason. How's everything on the bridge?"
"Weird. Bridger keeps slipping from a mixture of whacked out and inane to unruffled. Like he doesn't know what he's supposed to do half the time. You'd think he'd got amnesia or something."
"That bad?"
"He did send me to do a diagnostic, because the ship won't move."
"Won't move?"
"Yeah. I think he's got a plan though. He got that sly look in his eye like you get when they turn dark green."
"I know that look," Nathan sighed. "Did she say anything else?"
"She?"
"He. Did he say anything else?" he corrected.
"Just that he wanted to see me when I was done."
"Ok. When you go see him let me know. I'll come with you. I want to talk to him."
"Cool." With that the PAL went off. Nathan sighed as another patient rolled in. Kitty's work is never done.

"I've got contact, sir," Tim proclaimed. He seemed proud of himself.
"Put 'em through." A face Kitty had never seen before came on screen, but she seemed to be familiar with Nathan.
"Hello," Kitty began. "My name's Captain Nathan Bridger, of the seaQuest."
"You don't recognize me?" her voice hissed. It made Kitty want to shudder. To her surprise she didn't. "One would think a man could remember one of his best students."
Her glare was as cold as the blue in her eyes. Again Kitty wanted to shiver. She didn't.
"I remember," she half lied. She did remember the woman vaguely. How she couldn't tell. Maybe her and her uncles minds were beginning to mix together? Hope not. "You want me, not them. Give me the chance and I'll surrender."
"How self-sacrificing, but don't you feel the least bit bad about forfeiting your uncle?" The woman continued her blasé stare.
"I would be dieing not him. How does my uncle fit into this anyway? He's been dead for years."
"You know why." The foe was aware of the situation, and somehow Kitty felt she was responsible as well.
"Marilyn? Have you been drinking again?" Kitty slipped. Guess the saying's true. You really can't live over five minutes without thinking. And she had been doing so well all these years.
"I see you haven't lost your sense of humor. I feel we can negotiate. You give me your niece, and I'll spare your ship."
Kitty's first impulse was to blantly refuse, but then she thought for the first time in her life. He should get to decide, not her. When she didn't answer the screen flicked off abruptly ending the insane laughter on the other side. Kitty's uncle's face went pale.
"Captain? What does she want with Kitty?"
"God can answer that. Ask him." Kitty stood up. "I want to see her in the meeting hall."

"Hey Captain, what's up?" Nathan said before the door closed.
"Do I really talk like that?"
"Yes. You do."
"Cool. What's not cool is what's up."
"Well what is it?"
"What?"
"What's going on?"
"Oh, nothing big. Just Marilyn Stark knows what's happened to us and now she's using that to her advantage. She wants you to surrender yourself to her as me. How did I know her name?"
"I think our memories are combining. Not too long ago I just had a flashback of Thanksgiving in Alaska. I've never even been to Alaska."
"I haven't either. I did see a movie like that once."
"That would explain why I didn't recognize anyone."
A knock came at the door.
"Captain, you wanted to see me?" Lucas muffled.
"Enter." Lucas did. "Can I tell him?"
"Tell me what?"
"I don't know..."
"Please, he could help us." Lucas looked at the two strangely. It wasn't every day he saw Bridger beg his niece to tell him something.
"Fine."
"Thanks. Lucas you're going to have a hard time believing this, but Uncle Nathan and I have switched bodies."
"You're kidding...right?"
"No, Lucas, Were not." Nathan piped in.
"Dude."
"That's what I said," Kitty quipped.
"You do realize this has never happened before."
"We figured as much." Nathan replied swiftly.
"Isn't there anything we can do?" Kitty asked him.
"I'd have to figure out what swapped you two first."

Kitty had Commander Ford to take over while she thought about the decision she was about to make. Lucas sat there working on what looked like a remote control.
"Well?" Kitty tapped her foot impatiently.
"I'm working on it!" Lucas exclaimed for the fifth time. "Sometimes you can be just as pushy as the captain!"
"Technically I am. Speaking of the captain...where did he go?" she looked around realizing that her Uncle Nathan had skipped out on them. It only took her a couple of seconds to realize what he had done. "Oh no." She pulled out her uncle's PAL. "Ortiz?"
"Yes sir?" he answered.
"How many pods do we have?"
"We're missing one, sir."
"How?"
"Kitty took it. She said it was captain's orders."
That was the last thing she heard from him. Her environment faded and a bright flash surrounded her. The next thing she knew...
"So, Nathan, I see you decided to give yourself up." Stark smiled wickedly.
"Huh?"

Nathan glanced around. He was back in his own body.
"Not now." he grumbled agitated.
"Kitty, what's wrong?" Lucas wondered.
"I'm not Kitty," he replied. "We switched back already."
"That's great!" Lucas exclaimed.
"No it's not. Now Stark has Kitty."
"What? We have to go get her!" he jumped up.
"For once, I agree with you."
"Captain," Ford called in. "I think you should come see this."

Stark snatched Kitty's throat. Quickly she turned to the captain who was now on screen. She could feel a cold sharp steal cover it. Kitty screamed.

Stark glared at the SeaQuest crew.
"Now you can watch your precious captain die!" she exclaimed.
"No!" Lucas yelled. Bridger shook his head while the rest of the crew just swallowed.
"Stark, please no." They all watched Kitty plead with tears. Marylyn pressed the knife harder.
"What do you want Marylyn? Why do you want to kill my niece? She's done nothing to you."
"You're wasting your time trying to save your uncle. I've been waiting to long for this.
"She's gone mad," Ford whispered.
"I know," Nathan answered him. Stark began the motions to slit Kitty's neck. The entire party watched her eyes glow red. Nathan almost smiled.
Kitty screamed again only this time it was a war cry. She grabbed Stark's arm and twisted it out of joint. The old woman dropped the knife as she yelled with pain. Kitty picked it up, jumped down to her on the floor, and pressed it against her collar.
"Let's see how you like being on the other side of this blade!" Kitty exclaimed.
"Kitty no!" Nathan commanded.
"Aww why not?" she whined looking back at the almost horrified crew.
"You'll never forgive yourself.
"And how would you know?"
"Because I would never forgive myself if I did. She belongs in jail, Kitty, not in Hell."
"Fine," she sighed her eyes melting into a sullen brown. "Just come and get me." She turned off the link.
"I guess this means you won't be needing me?" Lucas asked Nathan as he left to greet Kitty once again.
"There is one thing..."
"Sir?"
"That two way."
"Oh," Lucas blushed realizing his mistake. He took it out.
"No. You keep it, but if I ever catch you using it for something illegal. You'll be grounded even longer than you are now."
"Yes, sir." Lucas smiled.
True Nathan should have taken it away from him, but switching bodies with Kitty taught him something. Kid's don't have it as easy as he thought, and he knew Kitty realized that captains didn't either.
