In Return
"C’mon,
I can take you!” Katherin Berlow threatened. Steam burst through the
bull’s nostrils as it lowered its head and scrapped the ground. Kitty
did the same. The bull charged full blast. Kitty let out a war cry and sprinted
at a high speedherself. At the very brink of collision they stopped short.
Both man and animal breathing heavy. When energy was restored Kitty smiled,
her purple eyes almost glowing. (They had been this color since her resurrection.)
"You are worthy opponent, buru-san.” She replied
totally satisfied. She stepped haughtily out of the pen, dazed co-workers
stared in her direction. “He was giving me lip.” she explained.
This didn’t change the reaction. Suddenly shots rang in the air. Quicker
than a reflex Kitty jumped out of it’s range. She looked into the direction
of her attacker.
"Hey! What as that for?” she yelled. The black
cloaked figure ran, Kitty fallowed pursuit. Gushing through the Mexican streets
the two dodged each’s attempts to stop the other. She was loosing breath;
her assailant grew weary as well. As she caught up to her, the assassin whipped
around, the gun pointed directly at her head. In defense Kitty was about to
knock the gun from her hand when both stopped. Dramatic pause ensued, a glint
of recognition in both women’s eyes.
The young
blonde lowered her weapon and ran again, this time Kitty didn’t fallow.
"Madi?"she strained.
"
Brother!” Madison exclaimed storming in.
“Yes, Madison?”
“Did, father tell you the name of the lady I was supposed to kill?”
“No. No need. Why?”
“I…I couldn’t do it.”
“What?”
“I just couldn’t.”
“Madison. Since when can you not kill?”
“I don’t know. I looked into her eyes and I just couldn’t.”
“Father will be furious about this. She will ruin his plans.”
“Yes I know. That’s what he told me too, but I can’t kill her.”
“I see.”
“Another bizarre thing is this, I don’t think she could harm me either.”
“How so?”
“Well, she had the chance, but she didn’t take it.”
“She must have been weak.”
“No. I don’t think so, brother. She isn’t the weak type.” Hatch nodded then grasped his forehead letting out a silent cry of pain.
“Madison,” he mumbled.
“Yes brother, I know, the medics.”
She left the room, pushed the call button, and then waited by his door. Madison knew it was his pride that wouldn’t allow her to see him like this. Ever since the accident he was never all there anymore. She felt deep sympathy for her beloved older brother, even when he was like this. She had only seen him during this phase once. Her remembrance was crisp of the exact moment.
One
minute he was discussing plans of war the next he was raving like a maniac,
and tried to kill their father. He called him Shinigami and swore he would
never take her alive. He unsheathed his sword and murdered the two other men
in there. They had to sedate him and drag his limp body away. She was only
a child then, but the memory lingered. The only recollection of her youth.
Hatch began to bang on the other side of the door.
“Madi! Madi open the door!” he muffled. Madison did nothing, she knew he only called her Madi when the condition kicked in. “Madi! If you’re there listen. Shinigami will kill you. Don’t you understand? He’ll kill you.” The medics arrived.
“He’s in here,” she told them. They rushed
in along side her.
Hatch was
about to fight them off when he saw Madison. His eyes had a spark of betrayal
mixed with the feeling inside them. She wanted to cry but remained firm.
“Don’t worry, brother. These good doctors will help you.” She told him. Then, as if what she said cut deep to the core, Hatch gave up. The fire inside him faded, and all the medics had to do now was drag him away.
“It’s too late.” he moaned. “I’m too late.” The color drained from his face as they seized him. Madison stared to the ground…where his tear had fallen. One of hers joined it.
Kitty
looked at the ceiling. Had she really seen Madison? Or, like the voices, was
it like a play of her imagination. A cruel rouse Shinigami had implanted into
her brain while he was inside her body. It didn’t matter either way.
She would probably never see her again to ask. Kitty did know one thing for
certain, she had to get some air.
“You didn’t kill her?” the man was outraged for a brief
second.
“No father. I couldn’t.”
“This was a routine run, Madison. It shouldn’t have required a chase.”
“I know father. I’m sorry.” She apologized. The man sighed.
“No matter. I have another job for you.”
“Yes father.”
Simariah
finally lay down. Her body was sore all over, and she was surprised she could
even breathe. It had been a harsh say on her. First bug thingy’s start
gallivanting around trying to kill every one for the “creamy filling”,
after that this huge flaming shit demon flooded from the toilets, then last
but not least a mock-up of Godzilla escaped from the labs and the only thing
that could stop it was a flame retardant cheese wheel. She was exhausted.
“So
you’re the great Simariah?” A voice replied. The woman had been
sitting in a chair covered by the shadows, but now stood up. “Pathetic.”
“Who are you?” Sim wanted to know.
“I am your captor Ms. Madoc. I need no other introduction.”
“It only seems fair. You already know my name.”
“I did not ask you for yours. Now if I may ask you to hold still,
Ms. Madoc. We can do this quickly. I would rather not cause you any pain.”
“Pain? Your too late for that.” Madison gave a weak smile then
pulled out a small bottle. Inside it was a purplish smoke. Before Sim could
figure out what it was she tossed it too her, as a reflex Sim caught it then
hastily dropped it. Her mistake. It broke open and the smoke filled
the air around her. When it cleared Madison lifted her paralyzed body from
the ground.
"The cherry on the cake.
“Don’t
worry Ms. Madoc, the ride will end shortly. My father wants to meet you in
person before you die. Sim sat there unmoved. Mainly because she was immobile
. From the back Kitty remained silent. She couldn’t see the captors
face, only her blonde hair for the duration of the trip. When they landed
again the woman lifted Sim’s numb limp body.
“What has that nocens lamia done to her?” she wondered to herself.
Then for the first time in years Kitty wished she hadn’t said something
like that. She saw the ladies face. Shock took her hostage again but not for
long. Stealthily she emerged from the craft. Gazing
ahead in the darkness Kitty tried to make out where she had taken Simariah.
“Mam?” someone saw her. She whipped around. “How
did you get here?”
“Uh…I was born?”
“Do you have a pass?”
“Yes.”
“Well?”
“Well what?”
“Your pass.”
“Oh my pass.” she put her hand on the shadowed figures shoulder
trying not to laugh. “I thought you said ‘can you kick my ass?’”
Kitty laughed a little harder then smashed her foot into his skull.
Sim
turned her head.
“Ah, I see your feeling is returning.” Madison almost
sounded relieved. “My father will join us soon.”
“Correction. Has joined you. You brought her.”
“Of course father.”
“Good, after this mornings escapades I thought you had
lost your spine. Leave us.”
“Yes father.” Madison left the party more than hurriedly.
“So, what oban did you trick for that one?” Sim snarled. The man
finally let go from his only crutch, the shadows.
“A friend of yours I believe,” he replied twirling the stem of
a rose before he tucked it into his shirt pocket. “She is not mine however.
She belongs do my “donor”” he suavely put it.
“Madison.” Sim confirmed.
“Yes. To my surprise she turned out to be quit the little murderess,
and the looks travel with her as well. If she weren’t supposed to be
my daughter she would make a lovely concubine. Sim gave him a disgusted look.
“You
know, you may have Lucas’ face, but you greatly lack his integrity.
I can give him that.”
“Why thank you, so nice of you to notice. Now enough with the chat.
You know why you’re here.”
“And the answer is the same.”
He sighed, “Your loss.” He lifted his…Lucas’ jewel
encrusted pocket knife to her neck.
“Feeling
better brother?” Madison wondered coming into his office.
“Cool, great, I’m, I’m feeling, I’m
feeling, uh, good y’know. You, uh, you want something or anything?”
Hatch was collecting his nerve. Madison was wary.
“Just checking on your health, brother.” she replied skeptically.
The door slammed shut. Kitty stood at it’s entrance.
“You?”
“Yes, Madi, it’s me.” Madison pulled out her gun.
“Madi! No!” he yelled grabbing her arm.
“Brother.” she objected.
“Madi, think, remember.” he pleaded. A flash jumped before her
eyes.
“That BASTARD!” she yelled knocking past
Kitty through the door.
Sim
closed her eyes gathering herself for her last breath. The entrance crashed
open.
“@#*&@! You lied to me!” Madison burst. Taken by surprise
Shinigami pointed the knife away from Sim. She took this chance to kick it
from his hand. Kitty and Hatch appeared at the door behind Madison. The
tables had just turned.
“Shini,” Kitty spat sweetly. “I believe you have something
that doesn’t belong to you.” As she said this Hatch went to pick
up Lucas’ knife, keeping his gun steadily pointed at Shinigami’s
head. “Give me back my husband!” she demanded.
“I’m afraid I can’t do that, dear.”
“Don’t you dare call me that, Shinigami. You have no right.”
“So I’ve progressed back to Shinigami now, I must be getting to
you.” Not a sound was uttered after that.
No
one could tell who was playing who. Shinigami’s face never changed ,
and Kitty was even smiling. Hatch had already untied Sim and they all watched
the two stare menacingly into each others eyes. The tension in the air grew
fierce, finally Shinigami…blinked?
“Curses!” he jeered in a villain type manner.
“Ha! I won!”
“Best two out of three,” he replied. The looks of amazement switched
to ‘are they nuts?’ gazes.
“No. I won. Give him up.”
“Never! My revenge will go out as planned!”
“Oh get over it,” Sim complained smacking Shini upside the head.
“Give Lucas back.”
“Ow! What did you do that for?” he yelled only it wasn’t
in the evil demon voice.
“Lucas?”
“Yeah?” Kitty was about to cry.
“Oh my God,” she spouted in Italian.
“What?”
“Kitty! Don’t listen to him. It’s a trick,” Simariah
warned.
“Oh shut up!” she snapped emotionally.
“Hatch stop her,” Sim whispered.
WHAM!
Kitty
opened her eyes.
“Damn it!” she yelled in Russian.
